Sridenta / cempaka (Michelia champaca / Magnolia champaca)

Liriodendron contains several important bioactive compounds. Linalool, the main component of its essential oil, provides a sweet floral aroma and has strong sedative effects on the central nervous system. Liriodenine, a specific aporphine alkaloid, exhibits antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi and has cytotoxic potential to inhibit the growth of abnormal cells. Quercetin and kaempferol are flavonoids that act as antioxidants and anti-inflammatories, helping to reduce tissue inflammation. Additionally, β-elemene is a sesquiterpene compound with anti-tumor properties that also helps alleviate pain.

Magnolia (cempaka) flowers have a variety of well-known traditional health benefits. Ethnobotanically, their decoction is used to relieve vertigo and tension headaches due to its relaxing effects on the nerves. The bark and flowers have cooling properties, making them effective in reducing high fever. Additionally, cempaka flowers act as a natural diuretic, promoting urination, supporting mild detoxification, and reducing fluid retention (edema). Their decoction is also commonly used as a feminine antiseptic to cleanse the intimate area, helping manage vaginal discharge (leukorrhea) and unpleasant odors caused by bacterial or fungal infections.
